Attested elsewhere in ancient sourcesSea mammals sacred to Poseidon that rescue Acenes after the shipwreck. Greeks believed dolphins were divine messengers and helpers who saved drowning sailors. Stories of dolphins guiding ships to safety or rescuing humans were common in ancient Greek maritime culture.
