Sphinx
Attested elsewhere in ancient sourcesA mythological creature with the head of a human, body of a lion, and sometimes wings of an eagle. The sphinx in Kalaxes' collection is implied to be the same one that tested Acenes with riddles earlier in his journey. In Greek mythology, the sphinx was known for posing riddles and devouring those who failed to answer correctly.
